As requested by the owners of the new West London Crossfit gym, we placed top priority on the function of the space, followed closely by the confines of a conservative budget and an industrial aesthetic. As function is our standard starting point for all spaces, we complied to this priority with ease. The ultra-conservative budget was definitely more of a stretch, while the industrial aesthetic fell easily into place, given the fact that the space had posed most recently as an auto parts supply warehouse.
Concrete floors were simply ground and sealed while ceilings were left exposed and untouched. Existing walls were treated to a coat of paint while new partitions, including offices and change rooms were largely clad with highly-economical (and industrial) oriented strand board (OSB). All in all, a simple, raw, and gritty space – apt for the Crossfit experience.
